This is the course you need to obtain your Massachusetts License to Carry or FID Card

Course Description:

This class is a Basic Firearms Safety Course. Once completed, you will receive the required Massachusetts State Police Certificate that needs to be submitted with your application to your licensing authority in your City/Town. This course is approved for the Massachusetts License to Carry or Firearms Identification (FID) Card. The course takes approximately 4 hours and does not include live fire. Some towns require live fire before issuance of permit, this is available upon request.

This course includes live fire shooting

Course Description:

This course will consist of a 4 hour classroom portion, followed by a 2.0 hour range session to include live fire pistol shooting at the range. This class includes a “live fire” stamped state issued certificate and meets the requirements for a license to carry of FID card.

The following cities/towns require LIVE FIRE as part of your class: Weymouth, Hingham, Sharon, Rockland, Boston, Brookline, Quincy. If you live in one of these communities you will need a live fire class.
